Salt Valley

Full description

In 1860 Veress József, the founder of the first spa resort of Sovata/Szováta created an artificial lake in the Salt Valley, where he built a pile dam to collect the salt water of the hiding stream with the purpose to use it for baths and treatment. According to some sources, the first two bath houses were built in this area, in 1844, bordered by the salt mountains, which were also  mentioned by the great traveler, Balázs Orbán.
The Salt Valley can be reached following the Western Alley of the Salt Road and it hides more than forty salt springs, which are gathered in puddles and  bathers use it as spa pools for one or two persons.
A curiosity of the Salt Valley is that the salt resistant plant, the glasswort (Salicornia europaea) is widely spread here.
