Villa Sándor János

Full description

In 1910 Sándor János, former supreme Count of Târnava Mică/ Kis-Küküllő county, and then Secretary of State at the Ministry of Interior, built a villa on a huge plot of land in  Sovata/Szováta .
He later donated apart of this land to the Roman Catholic Church, in order to build the Chapel "Heart of Jesus".
During her first visit to Sovata/Szováta in 1923, Queen Maria stayed in this villa, which was the best possible publicity for the famous resort.
After the nationalization and until 1971, the four-class school operated in this building, then the Agricultural Bank, until the 2000s.
The villa has been returned to the descendants of the Sándor family, and starting with 2019 it has been the venue of various cultural events. The family's plans are to strengthen the cultural life of the town and the resort, respectively to find a role that unites the community.
